Saving sectors, added in version 1.7.9-b2, is a feature of the mod that allows to save your Procedural Objects (PO) data in multiple dedicated files, instead of saving all of PO data in the base game save file, alongside the rest of the data of the savegame. You can open the Saving Sectors Management window from Selection mode.
- Saving sectors allow to save more data and prevent save/load issues. The internal Cities:Skylines saving mechanism prevents to save big data sets into the main save file. This limitation is based on byte size, not on Procedural Objects count per se and it's difficult to assess what number of POs it corresponds to, because the difference in data size between 2 different POs can be enormous depending on the complexity of its 3D model. Usually, this issue arises around 10 to 20 thousand POs, and prevents the game from saving/crashes it entirely until data size is reduced. Therefore, using Saving sectors becomes important when you heavily use PO.
- You choose which of these sectors to load, therefore drastically improving loading time : on the game loading screen, when you use saving sectors, a PO window will show up asking you which of your sectors you want to load for this game session. By skipping the loading of some sectors that you're not working on at that time, you can potentially reduce loading/saving time immensely by loading and saving just the parts that matter to you at that moment.
- The feature is not enabled by default and has to be enabled : by default PO will keep saving data only in the base game save file. To enable this feature, open the "Saving Sectors Management" window in Selection mode, and click Create sectors data for this save.
- You assign your POs to sectors like you do for layers : once sectors are enable on a given save, click a PO, or PO selection, and under "Set Sector", choose the sector you desire. It doesn't affect anything until saving takes place.
Notes :
- You can only delete a sector, or assign POs to a sector if said sector has been loaded on the current game session.
- PO Groups cannot be split between different sectors. All POs inside a PO group must be in the same sector, therefore grouping POs will make them in the same sector automatically.
- By default, the mod creates a backup of your previously loaded sectors files upon saving (configurable in the settings panel)
